Cape Cod's Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, gearing up for Casino
Wampanoag Tribal Chairman, Glenn Marshall of Mashpee came to Middleboro to answer questions about the proposed casino plans, to a sardine packed auditorium, filled with Middleboro residence. After leaving the informational only meeting on 5/22/07 on whether Middleboro was going to host a casino or not.
My personal opinion is that the casino is more likely to come than not and I think Middleboro should negotiate in the towns best interest with the Wampanoag's as soon as possible. My biggest surprise at the meeting was that the older people that have been around town the longest seemed more favorable to the casino then the younger "implants" for lack of a better term. Of course this observation was made with just the people that I spoke and/or heard from, but still I found it surprising. My crystal ball tells me in two years I'll be out on Precinct Street sitting at a black jack table and saying wow, it took me a lot less travel time to get here! After all, "if you build it they ( I ) will come."
What do you think? I would love to know!

Big News for Middleboro
As you may or may not have heard, there has been some very big land purchases recently in Middleboro.
Rumor has it that "CASINO" talk is going on. There was also a town meeting on Monday about it. My understanding is that Middleboro is third on the list on towns sought for the Casino, which if it comes will help (financially) build out 44 and get that nut off our table. After all we can't even afford our police and fire departments, oh yah they will most likely have to contribute there as well. Will we be in the mist of a condo empire to house the employees, what will happen to our schools if hundreds of more kids move in?
What would a casino do to small town Middleboro? Tell me what you think. My guess is at first it will probably inconvenience all of us. The traffic alone! But in the end will it help our economy? Will it decrease our taxes? Will our children be in little gangs? Will violence and big city problems follow? All this is hard to say but everyone has an opinion. What's yours?
I do know on the few occasions when I was entertained myself at Foxwoods, there were more MA license plates there then any other states as far as I could see. How much money is leaving our economy, millions and millions would be my guess. I know I left a couple bucks there, hence the reason I don't visit regularly.
I for one say, we need a casino, to keep Mass money in Mass, but do we need it in Middleboro? TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK, I WANT TO KNOW!
